Ranbir Kapoor’s highly-hyped mythological movie Ramayana: Part One is leaving a trail of touts in its wake before its release in theaters. The movie certainly put up a stir in the U.S. with the advance sale figures being closely eyed for a good overseas rollout. The ambitious adaptation is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and Ranbir Kapoor is played out as Lord Rama while Sai Pallavi and Yash are playing Sita and Ravana respectively. This movie is being made on a grand scale, with iconic sources, star-studded cast and is set to be one of the biggest Indian films this year
The entertainment trade reports indicated that Ramayana was able to cross the $150,000 US advance bookings mark in only 24 hours since movie ticket sales began. The first figures are encouraging and may change as more screenings are released and nearer to the film’s release. The fans will be more interested in how the film will be presented on the IMAX and 3D screens, these early numbers should not be considered as a definitive indicator of the movie’s opening weekend sales.
The most uncertain thing is whether Ramayana will break Prabhas’s record of Adipurush as it makes its debut in the U.S. box office. The comparison has raised rumors among box-office fans, the figures of the two films must be taken on a level playing field. Figures and comparisons-pre-sales, opening day and Total advance sales- must be read carefully. With a positive outcome thus far, Ramayana will depend on ticket sales to rival the reported figure for Adipurush in the coming few days. A confirmed record should be used only when reliable and comparable figures are available, making a confirmed record should be used as a last resort.
The popularity of Ramayana has also started in India and bookings for Ramayana started from October 20 – also the day of Dussehra is celebrated. On October 21, there were reports of a 24-hour span of national advance sales with the film taking 86,187 tickets in 104 cities. Gross bookings came close to ₹3.13 crore (excluding blocked seats), according to Hindustan Times, while the other trade report estimates it at a higher of ₹6 crore (including blocked seats). The difference is telling; it’s clear to see why it’s crucial for box-office reports to indicate if blocked seats are included or not. This of course is bolstered by the domestic and international news, as there is a considerable amount of pre-orders, although it’s not a fact of a guaranteed opening day or lifetime collection.
The film will be released theatrically globally on 5th November 2026 as Ramayana: Part One. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, the film is a star-studded affair with many other big names on the crew including Nitesh Tiwari (Director), Namit Malhotra (producer), Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman (Composers). As it gets closer to release there’ll be more tests and new advance bookings released that will provide a clearer indication of its commercial viability. As of now, the film has been enjoying a solid first day in the U.S. with a lot of attention coming its way and hasn’t been officially confirmed box-office wise as of yet, so it is best to stick to the story line, rather than an actual record.
