Actor Rajpal Yadav has been granted temporary release by the Supreme Court in seven cheque bounce suits against Murli Projects Private Limited. On 15 September 2026, the Supreme Court allotted another two weeks time for financial conditions and ordered the actor to put a demand draft of Rs 2 crore in the Court Registry. The court also issued a notice for Rajpal Yadav to hand over his passport. The relief is welcome as the actor is also being prosecuted in relation to a long running financial dispute and previous court rulings for the dishonour of cheques. The latest order is significant in the case, as the Supreme Court has made it clear that the opportunity it is giving him is a last one.
The latest order by the Supreme Court has given the sportsman, Rajpalk Yadav, a reprieve for the time being, as the case is still pending. The court had earlier granted him protection and provided him two weeks to arrange the payment of Rs 2 crore as required, according to reports. The court also directed him to hand over his passport,as part of the terms of the relief. The issue has been a subject of much discussion because the actor has been presented with chances to pay off their obligations. The Supreme Court has now said this is the last chance to show compliance with the conditions that the court had set.
The legal battle is linked with the financial dealings of Murli Projects Private Limited and film production. The matter has to do with cheques which were purportedly issued in relation to the financial transaction and which were then dishonoured. The proceedings have involved seven cases of cheque bounce. Earlier, the Delhi High Court had convicted Rajpal Yadav in the cases and find Rs 3000 with a three month imprisonment. The Supreme Court is now hearing his challenge as it considers the conditions of his request for relief.
Rajpal Yadav’s legal woes in the case have been ongoing for years. Previous orders included ones that mandated him to pay for the remaining balance and that courts take notes of his commitments to pay his debt. The Delhi High Court had earlier heared the case and in the end, affirmed the convocation and sentence. The Supreme Court earlier in September issued a stay on surrender pending payment of ₹5 crore. The court on 15th September heard his plea for time and gave him another two weeks under a changed condition of paying a deposit of ₹2 crore.
While the latest order gives Rajpal Yadav some respite, it does not put an end to the legal proceedings. He has to abide by the Supreme Court order within the given time frame, which comprises of arranging a demand draft of ₹2 crore and handing over his passport. It is hoped that the issue will be readdressed after the two week period, when the court will be able to see if the actor has met these conditions. The Supreme Court has placed a great emphasis on observance, so the next hearing may be important for deciding the fate of the temporary protection.
